KEE Botanical Gardens was honoured to host a delegation from the KEMRI Department of Traditional Treatment and Herbal Medicine, representatives from the County Government of Makueni, and members of the area security team on 29th May 2026.
The visit marked an important occasion as the delegation toured KEE Botanical Gardens to witness the work being undertaken by Dr. Mike Mwendwa in promoting natural healing through indigenous trees, herbal medicine, and environmental conservation.
Throughout the visit, guests had the opportunity to learn about the importance of preserving indigenous medicinal trees, sustainable conservation practices, and the role of traditional herbal knowledge in supporting community wellness. Discussions also highlighted the need to protect indigenous plant species while promoting responsible use of natural resources for future generations.
The KEE Botanical Gardens team shared its ongoing commitment to educating communities about natural healing, organic herbal practices, and environmental stewardship. The visit created an excellent platform for exchanging ideas on how conservation and traditional knowledge can contribute to healthier and more sustainable communities.
For the KEE Botanical Gardens team, the visit was both encouraging and inspiring. It demonstrated that the efforts led by Dr. Mike Mwendwa to conserve indigenous trees and promote herbal medicine are attracting interest from institutions and stakeholders who share a common vision of protecting Kenya’s rich natural heritage.
